Scrapbooking:Project Life 2015

I've always been a crafter and have scrapbooked in some form or another since I was at secondary school. At the end of last year, I promised myself that I would try out Project Life as a way to record my photos and memories. I knew that scrapbooking a double page for every month would be realistic for me and something that I could easily do in my free time (whenever I'm not planning lessons or writing up assignments). So far, I've nearly finished a double page layout for March, with a separate double page layout for my residential trip to Wales, and I'm collecting photos for the April pages.

March - Wales trip still needs journaling =)

Double page for January (seemed to have cut off the left edge)

Project Life really is scrapbooking simplified. All I do it add the photos that I want printed to an album on Snapfish, and at the end of the month I'm ready to order the prints that I want to include. I use Snapfish to print my photo's as I can easily upload the pictures from my phone to the album using the app, create individual albums for each month, take advantage of the free prints they offer every month (so I only end up paying P&P) and just wait until they arrive through the post. I find that this helps a lot as I don't need to faff around with the printer at home or try different websites.

Haul of scrapbooking goodies!

I also don't use a whole Project Life Core Card kit. This is simply because there are too many pretty designs all in different kits, and I can't really afford £20-£30 on one kit (especially on a student budget), so I buy the Core Kit Samplers from the Hey Little Magpie online store. It means that I can pick and choose different 'mini' sets to use in my layouts, which is great because I love mixing and matching the different designs. I know it doesn't seem very cost effective, but I would never be able to use all 600+ cards from one of the core collection kit in my scrapbook. I also mix and match my cards with other brands, and use these calendar cards as a way to highlight the month that's being scrapbooked over the pages. Just cut up the individual months and pop them in one of the pockets. I know some Scrapbookers like to have a theme throughout their album, but I'm definitely not one of them =)

The opening page of my scrapbook features these two cards.

Over the past few years, I've collected a bit too many scrapbooking supplies, but with Project Life they really aren't needed as the design and layout is so simple and easy to do (although I do like to get creative by adding some sparkle and embellishments).

How do you record your photos and memories? Ever tried scrapbooking?

One of the downsides of going back to university is the lack of income, which means that I can't really do any impulse buying. My current monthly treat is the YBD beauty box which at £7, I think is justifiable, but at the same time, I can't go out and purchase the full size product if I've tried (and loved) the trial/sample. The product I'm talking about is the MeruMaya Overnight Recharge Night Cream, which I got a sample of in January's YBD box.

I've heard great things about the Melting Cleansing Balm, and after trying it I have to say that I agree, but I won't be giving up my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish for it. The night cream on the other hand, has me hooked. Applying a little after cleansing my face before bed, I wake up with super soft skin, you'd think that I had applied a hydrating face mask or something. It isn't heavy, doesn't leave your skin feeling sticky and hasn't irritated my sensitive skin. In the morning, it's like waking up knowing you're going to have a good skin day (that sounded better in my head). I never really thought about applying a different moisturiser at night, but this one has converted me after just a few uses (I've had to cut open the sample tube just to get it all out).

It's currently on my wishlist, because at £33.50, it is not cheap and so I will have to wait until the Summer (when I am hopefully back in work) to buy this amazing night cream.

You Beauty Discovery Box - April (Organic & Natural)

Yes, I completely forgot to blog about the March YBD thanks to a whole bunch of uni deadlines and the general teacher workload. However, this months You Beauty Discovery box  theme is organic and natural products, focusing on skincare without all the nasties.

From the product selection, I chose the Scentered Sleep Well Therapy Balm (RRP £14.50) and the Our Tiny Bees Lavender Hand Balm + Beeswax Lip Balm Duo (RRP £7.95 and £3.95). I first read about the Scentered balms on British Beauty Blogger a few weeks ago and so when I received the YBD product list email, I knew straight away to add this to my box. The idea behind the Scentered balm is that it is applied to the pulse points (on wrist/neck) and then you allow the scent of the aromatherapy oils to work. It's 100% natural and I'm hoping it'll be a good alternative to the This Works Sleep Plus+ Pillow Spray (which unfortunately contains gelatine). I carried on with the Lavender theme of the box and also picked the Our Tiny Bees duo as the next product. I love my usual hand creams but the hand balm will be great for a quick hand massage during the day, and so will be kept on my desk. I don't really need any more lip balms, but this one doesn't have a scent and would be great to apply before lip colour as it doesn't leave your lips really shiny. Plus both products are made of all natural ingredients and use British honey and beeswax.

The extra's in the box this month were samples of Linwood's Flaxseed Cocoa & Berries and Yours Truly Organic Repair Serum. The serum doesn't really appeal to me, but I am keen to try out the flaxseed as an addition to plain yoghurt.
The total value of this box is £26.40, with all the products being full size, which is definitely worth it considering the YBD box only costs £6.95. It's the only treat I get due to my student budget!

What do you think of YBD boxes?
